Build your ladder to success

I would like to share a technique that has helped organize my life. This technique has helped me keep track of all my hobbies, work, studies, and potentially future interests that I would like to partake in.

This technique is called the ladder rung technique and is a visualization tool that can help you keep track of urgent tasks while also, keeping your long term goals at the center.

Imagine each rung of your ladder starting from a wider base (your foundation) and ends at the very top (your crowning achievement(s). Some may want their ladder to be has high as possible and that is a good thing. Remember, that the taller your ladder = the more unstable it becomes. This means that having a lot of aspirations can be good, especially if you are very organized. However, you do not want to spread yourself out to thin and ultimately tip your ladder causing everything you have worked so hard for to become unorganized or worse, forgotten.

The very bottom of your ladder is your foundation and also the longest rung. It holds you up and it is the first rung you pass while also the last rung you face coming back down to safety. You trust it to hold you high as you ascend to your next goal and you place trust in it to support you when you are ready to come back down after your journey is completed.

The following rungs up your ladder will become shorter and shorter as you ascend, so it is smart to place your short term goals higher up the ladder as you ascend. Visualize yourself climbing each rung as you complete each task and as assurance, visualize yourself coming back down your ladder back to your safe foundation. I visualize a weekly ladder which helps me organize all the steps to be completed for each rung. The following week I may have more to complete but instead of viewing those weeks as a burden, I view it as an opportunity to overcome my own stagnation. It will be a taller ladder to ascend and therefore, new heights and fears to overcome and grow from.
